A List Apart: Site Search Testing

25 Sep

Site search shouldn’t be viewed as purely a technology problem

John Ferrara’s article, “Testing Search for Relevancy and Precision” highlights some unique opportunities to let UX and design work on site search issues throughout the design process.

Designing site search is always an interesting challenge for me. Often due to dev constraints (time and resources) search becomes a secondary priority. Testing search in my past experiences has often been based on designer intuition and user testing. This has proven fairly effective but placing the testing process within a slightly more measurable framework should give designers more fact based leverage to justify their design choices.
