UX Resources for Project Managers

29 Jun

I’m leaving my current job for a new gig next week and one of my project managers asked me for resources to learn more about UX. Below is my response:

So with UX it’s pretty important to get a foundational understanding of the practice. The best book for this is “Don’t Make Me Think” by Steve Krug: http://amzn.to/QAz9Vu.

If you read one thing, make it that.

Other books I’d recommend:

PSFK Report: Future of Real Time Information

10 May

I finally spent some time going through all these PSFK reports, which are all pretty genius. The best of the bunch is the Real Time Information report. It is the most insightful in regards to the holistic impact that mobile technologies are having on our lives.

I worked with Deborah Estrin, who is quoted throughout the report, at CENS/PIER to create a demo of some of the work they are doing with personal environmental data. It was exciting to see how they were able to take these extremely broad data sets and personalize them in a relevant way. You can see some of the work I did at peterburnham.com.

Check out the PSFK  Future of Real Time Information report below.

Moholy-Nagy

The reality of our century is technology: the invention, construction and maintenance of machines. To be a user of machines is to be of the spirit of this century. Machines have replaced the transcendental spiritualism of past eras.

Hi, a real human interface.

Totally fun interpretation of interfaces by Multitouch Barcelona. At least it makes you appreciate all that goes into tasks that are normally taken for granted.
